Up to 300 new jobs are being created in West Edinburgh when home improvement company B&Q opens a new warehouse store in Hermiston Gait in October. Jobcentre Plus is working with B&Q to fill vacancies for customer advisors, night crew, check out operators as well as trade experts to work in departments throughout the store. Special job recruitment open days are being held in selected Jobcentre Plus offices between 10.00am and 4.00pm on the following dates: Wester Hailes Jobcentre Plus, Murrayburn House, Westside Plaza, Wester Hailes
Livingston Jobcentre Plus, Almondvale Centre, Livingston
Broxburn Jobcentre Plus, 97 East Main Street, Broxburn
Edinburgh City Jobcentre Plus, 11-13 South St Andrew Street, Edinburgh
Bathgate Jobcentre Plus, 31-33 Whitburn Road, Bathgate
Pat Hamilton, Jobcentre Plus account manager for Edinburgh, Lothians & Borders, said: “Jobcentre Plus is delighted to be working in partnership with B&Q to recruit the team for the new Hermiston Gait store. Regardless of age or experience, we’d like to hear from you if you are interested in developing a career in retail. To find out more, come along to one of our Open Days.” The 142,000 square foot store is due to open in October and Eddie McMenamin, B&Q general manager, said that the Hermiston Gait store will be an exciting new format store, unlike anything previously seen in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and added: “As a company we are looking for a balanced workforce, so would like to hear from people from 16 years old, with no upper age limit. We value the experience that older workers can bring to the workplace, and have very flexible work patterns to accommodate just about any circumstances with a great number of part-time vacancies including mornings and weekends.” Anyone requiring further information about the jobs on offer but who cannot attend an open day can contact their local Jobcentre Plus office. Alternatively they can call Jobseeker Direct on 0845 60 60 234.
