Labour Market Review

In South Yorkshire, we have worked in partnership with Meadowhall retailers, and set up an office on-site which has helped over 500 people find work. We have helped the Ventura contact centre in the Dearne Valley recruit over 1,400 staff.

In Doncaster we are working with the airport development at Finningly, which is hoped will create over 7,000 jobs.

In Leeds, we are a strong partner in the regeneration initiatives in the city, including projects in Harehills, Beeston, Gipton & Aire Valley. We are also working closely with the St James's partnership to support the development of the hospital, including funding a jobshop and construction gateway.

We are working to achieve a range of annual targets, which reflect our success in areas such as helping customers into work and delivering a better service to individual customers and to employers.

We will continue to give priority to those who have the greatest need, including lone parents, those receiving Incapacity Benefit, and New Deal participants. We are also focusing attention on helping those who live in the local authority area with the weakest labour market position - in Hull, Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, and Sheffield; and in wards with a high ethnic minority population – Bowling, Little Horton, Toller, Undercliffe, and University in Bradford, St John’s in Halifax, Chapel Allerton, Harehills, and University in Leeds, and Burngreave and Sharrow in Sheffield.

We have signed partnerships accords with Hull City Council, East Riding Council and Citybuild to promote Jobcentre Plus in Hull as the 'Recruitment Partner of Choice' to all inward investors and key employers. Through the Construction Works project, we have helped local people in Hull to access training and prepare for jobs in a range of new construction projects in the city.

In Sheffield, we are working with the NHS to encourage ethnic minority communities to take up jobs in the health sector.
