The Child Support Agency will be replaced by a new independent organisation, under proposals announced in today's White Paper on child maintenance.

The Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (C-MEC) will deliver a simpler and more effective way of assessing, collecting and enforcing child maintenance.

Work and Pensions Secretary John Hutton said: “It is vital that parents take financial responsibility for their children. These radical reforms will give parents the power to do this while ensuring they are protected by a tough and effective system.”
