Jobcentre Plus in Cambridgeshire has awarded the Disability Symbol to Workplace Law, based in Cambridge in recognition of their good employment practices in recruiting and retaining people with disabilities. The Disability Symbol is given to employers who pledge to meet five commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of people with disabilities. Clive Diver, Disability Employment Adviser for Jobcentre Plus in Cambridge said: “Jobcentre Plus is thrilled to be presenting the Disability Symbol to Workplace Law. By using the symbol it makes it clear that you welcome applications from people with disabilities and are positive about their abilities. It also shows existing employees that you value their contribution and will treat them fairly should they become disabled.” He continued: “It is also worth bearing in mind that by employing disabled people you will be better placed to recognise, develop and deliver goods and services for your disabled customers, as there are over 873,000 disabled people living in the Eastern region.” Over 5000 small, medium and large employers from both public and private sector organisations all over the UK are currently Disability Symbol holders. Established in 1995, Workplace Law Group has grown to become one of the country’s leading business advisors specialising in employment law, health and safety and premises management, with over 1000 companies enjoying the benefits of membership of the Workplace Law Network, and more than 40,000 workplace managers who subscribe to its weekly e-bulletin service. The group provides training, advice and consultancy throughout the UK. David Sharp, Managing Director for Workplace Law added: “ As an organisation that advises businesses on employment law and access to premises ourselves, we think it is very important that we help set the standards on good employment practice. We are delighted to win this award as a sign of our commitment to equality and in support of the work we do for our chosen charity, Exhall Grange School “
