With less than 75 shopping days before Christmas, Oldbury Jobcentre is gearing up to help local employers fill their seasonal vacancies by hosting a Christmas Jobsfair on Saturday 15th October from 10am to 2pm at Oldbury council house. Around 100 full and part time jobs are on offer, in retail and warehouse work. Most of the jobs are temporary, though some positions may become permanent in the New Year. Many local employers will be attending, including Argos, Asda, Comet, Dunelm, Halfords, JJB Sports, Lakeside Brewsters, Matalan, One and Two Halves, Sainsburys and Toys R Us. Kuldip Singh, Oldbury Jobcentre vacancy service manager, said: "This is a unique opportunity for people looking for work to meet face to face with employers, discuss the posts on offer and complete application forms immediately. A seasonal job in the run-up to Christmas could give you valuable experience, fill a gap on your CV, and provide a foot in the door to a more permanent job. If you are in receipt of incapacity benefit, income support, jobseekers allowance, disability living allowance, or you have a disability and need additional support to apply for work, come along to the Jobsfair which is in a great location for local people." Specialist Jobcentre Plus advisers will also be available to talk to jobseekers about a range of extra help, including support for people aged over 50, lone parents wanting to return to work and people with disabilities. They can also give information on the range of financial help that may be available when starting work. Anyone who cannot attend the event or would like more information should contact Oldbury Jobcentre on 0121 480 8712. Alternatively, jobseekers can call Jobseeker Direct on local rate telephone number 0845 6060234 to access thousands of jobs on offer locally, nationally and internationally. The textphone number for people who are hearing or speech impaired is 0845 6055255. Lines are open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays .
