Jobcentre Plus in Newcastle and North Tyneside have teamed up with the Newcastle Action Team for Jobs and Newcastle City Council to give jobseekers the chance to score a job at the St James’ Park Jobsfair on Thursday 19th February. The event will be held in the Bamburgh Suite between 10.00am and 4.00pm. The jobs fair follows hot on the trail of the outstanding success of a similar event held at the same venue last September, when more than 3,500 jobseekers came along to meet in excess of 60 employers and training and recruitment agencies who all had jobs to be filled. There has been an excellent response from a wide cross section of employers to come along to the event of 19 February when hundreds of full and part time jobs are up for grabs in transport, retail, hospitality, childcare and care work as well as customer service. Major local employers who will be setting out their jobs stalls include AA Insurance, Airtours Holidays, Boots, GNER, Mills Group, My Travel, PC World, Sage, TJHughes, together with various bus companies including, Arriva North East, Go North East and Stagecoach Busways. The Armed Forces and Royal Navy will also be there. Gaye Beresford, Recruitment Consultant with Jobcentre Plus said: “The Jobsfair is an open invitation to local people to come along and find out what’s on offer. People may be unemployed, facing redundancy, or just fancy a career change. Apart from the chance to meet employers face to face, they can even apply for jobs and training on the spot.” Keith Robertson Recruitment Coordinator For Go North East said, ” We’re looking forward to the event. The company attends many recruitment fairs but St James has proved to be the best yet! We had some good quality people apply and took on several people as result of the last event.” Maureen Coffer, Recruitment Consultant from Sitel UK, agreed that it was a very popular event, adding that the venue was excellent and the company received a lot of genuine interest from the last event. They too managed to recruit good quality candidates for both full and part time vacancies. Local training providers will also be on hand to offer advice to help people get the job they want and Jobcentre Plus and Action Team advisers will be talking to people about a wide range of extra help, including support for lone parents and people who have been out of work for a while, as well as offering benefits advice including the new Tax Credits. Children’s crèche facilities will be available at the event, run by qualified staff from the Children’s Information Services. The BBC Blue bus will be at the event to enable people to use on board IT facilities and search online for current vacancies.
