Andrew Smith, Work and Pensions Secretary, today announced five appointments - including four re-appointments - to the Disability Rights Commission (DRC). The appointments, which take effect from 1 April 2003, are Mr Saghir Alam, Ms Susan Daniels, Mr Richard Exell, Ms Evelyne Rank-Petruzziello and Ms Jenny White. Mr Smith said: "I am pleased to announce these five appointments to the DRC. I am confident that with their wealth of experience, these Commissioners will bring ideas and perspectives of great value to the DRC in taking forward the disability rights agenda." The Commission’s Chair, Bert Massie said: "I am very pleased with the announcement. The Commission has been an effective and cohesive force for change during the time it has been in existence. The names announced today will ensure that progress is continued and strengthened. These appointments mean that the Commission will have a good blend of experience and fresh thinking, which will enable the DRC to take forward its challenging agenda; build on its many achievements to date and maintain its good relationship with its wide range of stakeholders."
