Andrew Tannetta of Cardiff was unemployed for nearly five years , when he decided to put his difficult teenage years behind him. The 25 year olds first step was to approach Jobcentre Plus to help him find a job. His personal advisor Jan Powell at Charles Street Jobcentre suggested a work trial, a scheme which provides unemployed people with an excellent opportunity to prove themselves to an employer without giving up the security of benefit. Jan Powell arranged for him to be interviewed by the firm Site support/BBM so the employers could assess his suitability for a Work Trial. Andrew was successful and began his Work Trial and within three days he had impressed his manager so much, that he was offered a full time permanent job. Andrew said: "Work trials have given me a great chance to prove myself. I knew I had skills and that if an employer gave me a chance I could prove myself." Since then Andrew has qualified as a fork lift truck driver, and works in the warehouse, shop and on the computer. Andrew added: "this has been the fresh start and I now have a great job with this firm. I'm really looking forward to doing well and progressing within this company. If I work hard there is a great career structure here for me." Manager Joe Dennehy at Site Support/BBM said: "I would urge employers to use Jobcentre Plus to manage there recruitment needs. When we put out the advert initially we were inundated with applicants and we just couldn't manage the process. The Jobcentre offered to select 5 suitable candidates for us to interview for work trial. Andrew turned out to be the successful candidate! He is a good kid and a great asset to the business, he has fitted in really well and what's more he wants to learn".
