Jobseekers in Renfrewshire are being encouraged to apply for jobs at Glasgow Airport for the new year. Whilst it might be the time of year for Santa and snow rather than sun and sand, operators BAA are looking to employ security staff ahead of the busy summer season. A large number of jobs are available and each will be for a minimum of six months, working 20 hours per week or more on a shift basis. The jobs involve conducting general security work around the airport such as baggage checks, body searches and patrolling restricted areas. The flexibility of the job shifts may suit people with childcare responsibilities, or those who may have been out of work for some time and are looking to get back into a job. No experience is necessary as full training will be given but jobseekers should have good literacy and numeracy skills and enjoy working with people. Applicants will also be required to undergo background checks to assess their suitability. The first candidates are expected to start the new jobs in the next few weeks and people are now being encouraged to apply. John Dennison, district manager at Jobcentre Plus, said: “This is the first time we have worked with BAA and these vacancies provide an excellent opportunity for jobseekers in the Renfrewshire area. The jobs allow people to work full or part-time, so those with other commitments such as childcare responsibilities may find them particularly appealing.” Glasgow Airport security manager Derek Provan said: “BAA offers excellent working conditions and career opportunities. As a local employer, we are very pleased to be working with Jobcentre Plus. Our aim is for the first new staff to start early next year and to increase our intake as we move towards the summer holiday season.” Those wishing to apply can call BAA direct on 0141 585 6000 to request an application form, or, to apply online, go to www.baa.com, click “looking for a job” and search reference GLA147. Details of these and other jobs can also be found online by using the 'search for a job facility' on this website, or by calling Jobseeker Direct on 0845 60 60 234. Lines are open 8am – 6pm weekdays and 9am – 1pm on Saturdays.
