Help for older lone parents

If you are aged 50 or over, you may be entitled to extra help through New Deal 50 plus. For example, when you get a job you can apply for an in-work training grant of up to £1,500 to improve your skills and help you progress. If you want to find out more about New deal 50 plus or arrange to see a personal adviser, call 0845 606 2626.

Help for younger lone parents

If you are a lone parent aged 16 or 17, you are eligible to join New Deal for Lone Parents.

In England, you are also eligible for help from Connexions, an information and advice service for young people aged 13 to 19.

For information on Connexions, visit www.connexions-direct.com or phone 080 800 13 2 19.

For careers guidance and information if you live in Scotland or Wales, see the 'Useful contacts' section for some organisations that you may find helpful.
