In my current role as a New Deal 50 plus Adviser, I help many older people each week to overcome any barriers to work, discuss their situation and goals, and agree what work is best for them.

Some of the concerns raised by the over 50s include caring responsibilities, lack of formal qualifications and/or knowledge of new technology, heath problems, concerns about age discrimination, or a lack of confidence.

Many people that I see feel that these issues are holding them back but actually there is a lot that can be done to help tackle them. There are more and more opportunities for people over 50 in the workplace these days, and employers really want to add a rich mix of skills and experience to their businesses. There is also a lot more support available too and initiatives like New Deal really help make the difference to the people that I see.

By providing constructive advice, financial support and showing people the wide range of opportunities that are out there, I am able to give the people that I see, the confidence to go for a job that is right for them.
