Winners announced for the Yorkshire and The Humber Local Employment Partnership Awards
Employers in Yorkshire and The Humber were celebrating on Friday 6 March 2009 at the Local Employment Partnership (LEP) awards ceremony held at The Royal Armouries in Leeds. The awards recognised the outstanding contributions made by employers, employees and partners involved in LEPs with Jobcentre Plus - the Government's partnership approach to help disadvantaged jobseekers back into work. The ceremony was hosted by Tim Campbell, the winner of the 2005 series of the Apprentice and founder of the Bright Ideas Trust. Last years winner in the National LEP Awards, Exemplar Health Care, were again recognised, this time for their innovative training programme which has helped people unlock skills that they didn't know they had, and made it easier for them to start work in the care industry. They were also announced as one of the overall winners at the Awards, having been presented with the top gong for 'Outstanding Achievement'. Susan Cunningham, Director at Exemplar said: "The LEP has helped us reach people who wouldn't normally think of applying for a job in health care. Many of our roles are specialist and we can train people from scratch, which means they don't bring any preconceived ideas to the role. On average, around 80 per cent of people who come to our training sessions are offered a job, and our retention rates are excellent."
