East Midlands Local Employment Partnership Award Winners Revealed
On Tuesday 17 March, Jobcentre Plus held its first East Midlands Local Employment Partnership awards ceremony at the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The awards recognised the outstanding contributions made by employers, employees and partners involved in LEPs with Jobcentre Plus - the Government's partnership approach to help disadvantaged jobseekers back into work. The ceremony was hosted by Tim Campbell, the winner of the 2005 series of the Apprentice and founder of the Bright Ideas Trust. Among the wining highlights was Asda Grantham's innovative pre-employment initiative 'Asda Magic', which is making their application process more accessible to people who are excluded by conventional recruitment strategies. Asda's People Manager at Grantham, Sue Wood, said: "The LEP means we have a more diverse workforce that reflects our customer base. They get a lot of support and coaching, both from us and Jobcentre Plus. There's a strong support network." British Gas was a double winner, scooping the Unlocking Talent Award for their commitment to unlocking the talent in its workforce as well as being announced as the overall winner, having been presented with the top gong for 'Outstanding Achievement'. Gaynor Shaw, British Gas Services' Recruitment Manager says: "Our business benefits from having a highly skilled workforce, but the community also benefits. There are quite a few deprived wards in Leicester where positive changes like getting a job can help families in many ways. The word spreads and inspires other people to think what they can do too."
