Supporting your business to recruit young people

£1000 says we’ll find you the best young talent

Finding the right employees with the right attitude and skills can be a real challenge for many businesses.  Jobcentre Plus has joined forces with several key industry sectors to help employers get access to the best young people.

Thousands of young people are looking for the opportunity to work and as an incentive to help them, we're offering up to £1,000 for every eligible candidate that you recruit. (To be eligible, your new recruit must be 18-24 years old and have been claiming Jobseekers Allowance continuously for six months or more.)

This is a new element to our standard recruitment subsidy that we have introduced for employers from the following sectors:

Retail – working in partnership with Skillsmart Retail, Jobcentre Plus aims to provide retail businesses with young candidates that have the right skills.

Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism - working in partnership with People 1st, Jobcentre Plus aims to provide hospitality businesses with young candidates that have the right skills.

How it works

  • Talk to us about your recruitment needs and we can make sure that the right training is in place locally to prepare our candidates for your jobs
  • When the candidate first applies for your job, they will let you know they are eligible for this subsidy
  • Should you recruit them, on their first day of employment, your new recruit will bring a claim form that they have signed
  • Complete your details on it and return it to us - Example of a Recruitment Subsidy – Claim Form (119.13KB)
  • We'll check it for eligibility
  • You'll then receive up to £1,000 in two split payments:
