New Deal

Find out about New Deal, including the 'Flexible New Deal' programme. Jobcentre Plus offers a number of New Deal programmes to help unemployed people, particularly those who have been unemployed for a long time, people with disabilities and anyone in need of extra help to find work.

New Deal

New Deal aims to help you get a job if you are out of work. It will give you the chance to train, learn and do work experience so that you:

• can become more confident
• get new skills
• can be worth more to people looking for staff
• can find and stay in work

Depending on your circumstances, you may have to take part in New Deal. If you do have to take part and refuse, you may lose benefits.

When you must take part in New Deal

From October 2009, the current New Deal programme is being replaced by a different programme called 'Flexible New Deal' in the following areas:

• central London, Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth
• Devon and Cornwall
• East Midlands
• Greater Manchester
• Kent, Surrey and Sussex
• Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk
• North, East and South Yorkshire and the Humber
• Tees Valley
• West Midlands

• Ayrshire, Dumfries, Galloway and Inverclyde
• Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders
• Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire

• all Wales

Making work pay

One of the aims of New Deal and Flexible New Deal is to make sure you are better off in work than on benefit. Your personal adviser will help you work out what pay you need from a job so you don't lose out.

If you find work through New Deal or Flexible New Deal, there are some benefits you may still get. Your personal adviser will be able to tell you about them.
