What is the Social Fund?

If you are on a low income and faced with costs that are difficult to pay for out of your normal income, the Social Fund may be able to help.

The Social Fund can give a payment, a grant or a loan to help with things like:

  • items for the house
  • clothes and footwear
  • travel
  • urgent costs to keep you and your family safe
  • items for a new baby
  • a funeral
  • heating costs in very cold weather, and
  • heating costs during the winter to people aged 60 or over.
