Mortgage / Home Loan Interest 52 week linking

Last updated December 2002

This benefit is dealt with by Jobcentre Plus.

What is it?

From 9 April 2001, benefit linking arrangements have been extended from 12 weeks to 52 weeks for homeowners taking up full-time work (16 hours a week or more for you, 24 hours a week or more for your partner)

If you benefit from 52 week linking you can try work secure in the knowledge that if it does not last, you will not need to re-qualify for help towards your mortgage/home loan interest.

You will benefit from 52 week linking if you or your partner:

were getting help with your mortgage or home loan at the time you or your partner left benefit to move into full-time work, approved training or New Deal or Employment Zone work options

claim again within 52 weeks of starting full-time work, approved training, or New Deal or Employment Zone paid work options.

More information

You must tell your Jobcentre Plus office, Jobcentre or social security office straight away if you start work.
