Caring for disabled children

If you look after a disabled child, you might be entitled to care services. You don't need to be the child's parent to receive this help.

Your local social services or social work department can carry out a family needs assessment to find out what support and services you and other members of your family need. This can be anything from practical help around the home to opportunities for you and other members of your family to take some time out.

If you would like to ask about a family needs assessment, contact your local social services or social work department through your local council. Contact details are at www.direct.gov.uk and in your local phone book.
